Schrödingers Katze

“...ihm ist, als ob es tausend Stäbe gäbe und hinter tausend Stäben keine Welt...”

Rainer Maria Rilke, in his poem the Panther, observes the panther with wonder. But at the same time he writes about the caged animal observing the world it cannot reach. The act of watching as a tool of perception and thus creation. Who is watching whom, and how does that affect the way one looks at oneself. Are the bars around us a barrier, or protection? But from whom? the beast that can emerge from the inside, or the hostile unreachable freedom? by changing perspectives we can try and achieve a new understanding about the relationship between us and the reality we perceive, the inner one as well as the outer one.

What if

The piece "What if" deals with the idea of the multiverse.

The ‘multiverse’ is a term scientists use to describe the idea that there is more out there than just the observable universe. Is the existence of other universes possible? - Parallel universes, multiverses, alternate realities, parallel timelines. ‘What If’ is the possibility of considering those other options, the possibility of imagining those other realities forged by the options that could not be in the time and space we are experiencing, by the options that we did not take, that we let pass or that were not within our reach.

Remember to forget

Upcoming performance: 25.10.2022, 20:00

Venue: Das LOT, Vienna

Duration: 60min

The piece "Remember to Forget" deals, as can be guessed from the quote above, with human memory. In many ways we are constantly dependent on it, much more than we are actually aware of. Yet it is of immeasurable importance not only to the individual, but to our entire society, culture and politics. Without it we would not even be able to think. Because of still prevailing dichotomic conceptions of body and mind, it may sound contradictory to some, but memory is also the absolute proof of the inseparable interconnectedness between our ratio and physique. Therefore, dance is the ideal medium to to delve into memory and to express its meaning

In "Remember to Forget" we physically explore the described discourse around memory and translate it into movement. We investigate the divers theories and aspects physically to generate specific movement and try to translate the mechanics, function and structure of memory through it. We also both immerse ourselves in our individual personal memories and the physicality associated with them, thereby allowing dance movement to emerge and thus giving expression to the memory content through dance. Also, we explore and visualize the connection of our individual history with our shared cultural and collective memory and simultaneously create new collective memories.

In this way, we want to take the audience on a journey through the world of memory in all its facets, influenced by personal memories and the associated emotions, inviting them to also connect with their own memories and the processes associated with them. Through the connection, that automatically appears when watching dance, the collective memory also becomes tangible.. We also enter into a specific dialogue with the space and its memory contents at each place where we perform, thereby revitalizing the space itself as well as our dance. Additionally it is not to forget that also the audience is part of this dialogue as well, which means that what the spectators will receive, is strongly influenced by what they have stored in their memories themselves. Thus, together with space and audience we create a unique experience.

Blind man's Bluff

November 2021

The main initiative of our research and creation is the risk-taking approach emerging from human fear. Amateurs but also professional dancers and performers are often blocked by fear when trying more difficult or unknown movement elements. Frequently it is not only fear of physicality but also psychological fear of expressing oneself. This might lead to a negative influence on personal progress and even trauma. While understanding this in theory, the practical part of the research will involve different challenges that the performers will go through, that create aspects of fear in a safe environment so they can spot it at its core and find a way to overcome it. We will also touch the psychological side of fears through our memories on which we will reflect and use them to change from negative to positive experiences. Losing fear by facing it and understand leads to a person being more confident and courageous. A big part of the research will be based on exploring characters and the use of physical theater as a tool of expression. Partner work will be one of the most significant movement aspects. It will allow the use the potential of the whole group and open the space for interactions. Through partner work, extreme and risk-taking situations will be produced in order to display the confrontation of sudden risk accompanied by fear. How each dancer deals with it and how significant it becomes, is a matter of having group support or not.

Oktober 2020

How "collective" is the crisis really? Yes, the virus doesn't stop before anyone, but the consequences it brings with it obviously does. The proclaimed words point the way out of the crisis for some, but for others they only lead them deeper into it. A piece in which we thematise the problematic situation provoked through how politics deals with the pandemic, in which we give the crisis a face and look behind the facade of the media's theater.
